How to Set Stock Photo Video Price
Hi! Everybody is facing this big dillema: how to correctly set the prices in order to get the biggest number of sales. One should not look to the nubmer of sales but to the global income one's portfolio generates. I have been searching the web and books and asked friends for quite a long time on how to set my prices. I recently found what marketers call 'ELASTIC PRICING'. In short, you set different prices for your merchandise and after a period of time you see which price has brought you the biggest earnings. Many sellers fall in love with number of sales but forget about the total income. Which number of sales generates the highest income? Not necessarily the biggest. It depends on the price. For example: five sales of 10 USD give a smaller income than two sales of 75USD. For stock shooters, the method is a bit difficult but is worth the effort. Here is how you can do it.
You will find that a small(er) price is not necessarily giving you the highest income.
1. Choose at least three price levels, that is prices you think may bring you big sales or big earnings.
2. Select a relatively large group of similar(content and quality, e.g: portraits of young adult woman).
3. Split the group into smaller groups, one group for each price.
4. Set a price for each group.
5. Wait at least one month.
6. Measure the results: see which price has brought you the highest income. For example: one may note has 10 sales of 10 USD, one of 20USD and two of 35 - in this case 10USD is the optimal price. Another example: 10 sales of 10 USD and two of 75USD - in this case the optimal price is the 75USD as it brings 150USD into the pocket instead of 100USD.
The above figures are just examples. One or two months may seem a long period of time, but think that is for optimizing your incomes. After that you will know you get the maximum income for your portfolio. Of course, the method could be improved and I am ready to take all your suggestions.
God bless you all!
Christian.
P.S: For Pond5.com contributors there is a thing called Gapminder which makes there life easier. It basically shows a comparative graph of sales/incomes for different price levels.
